MADUMEZIM, AND AARON IMPEACHED AS NAISS PRESIDENT AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR GROSS MISCONDUCT AND ABUSE OF OFFICE

At Candlewood Hotel Owerri,  Madumezim Chukwuma Lugard and Progress Aaron were impeached as the President and Vice President of National Association of IMO State Students.

The whole drama played out during the Senate sitting of NAISS in honour of the late Comrade Donald Onukaogu, where NAISS Senators from various chapters of the association in tertiary institutions from various geo political zones raised issues that bothered on the abuse of office by the then president. The well attended sitting kick started with the National Anthem and three minutes silence as last respect to the departed soul of Lugard who died among other four in a ghastly motor accident. The Speaker of National Parliament of Igbo Students, Comrade Florence Chononso Florence opened the door for tributes to Donald and others.

The trouble started when the Senator representing University of Port Harcourt, Senator Sam Ihemegbulam raised an impeachment motion against the then NAISS President, Madumezim Chukwu Lugard for for gross misconduct and abuse of office. Following reasons were given; That The former President, Chukwuma Lugard gave out Awards to some Politicians for Emeka Ihedioha received an Award as the National Grand Patron of NAISS and father of IMO Students Worldwide against the constitution of NAISS and without ratification of the Senate; That Madumezim collected gratification with a sponsorship to Malaysia with Vice President and few of his cohorts without the knowledge of the Senate; That the former President of the body had unilaterally compelled the Senators and Students to pay N5,000 for Almanac without due process. At the special session, in a voice vote, two-third majority of the NAISS Students voted for the impeachment of the duo.

Meanwhile, another drama was that while the Vice President, Mr. Progress Aaron was lobbying for the successful impeachment of the President, the Senators of the body also moved against him, which almost caused scuffle were it not for the timely intervention of a van load of police squared.

Meanwhile, by the constitution of the body, the Senate President, Comrade Celestine Uzoma emerged the acting President of the body and will remain so until the next convention, which holds in few months time. The former Deputy President also constitutionally emerged the Acting Senate President.

For the political implication as it stands, there seems to be disquiet in the camps of some politicians whose candidates were edged out as the body is seen as strategic to their political future. Some students have reported that they are under pressure from some of the interested politicians who felt humiliated by the turn of the event. They averred that they have been inundated with threatening calls from some politicians and requested to be left alone. One of them who would not want to be mentioned said some of the politicians are the people corrupting the students with their money and vowed to declare some of them persona-non- grata if the ugly trend does not change.

The high point of the sitting was the pass of Vote of Confidence on Governor Okorocha and his Deputy, Prince Eze Madumere for the sustained free education policy.

Those present at the sitting are, National PRO of NANS, Comrade E.C.A Obama, The Speaker National Parliament of Igbo Students, Rt. Comrade Chinonso Florenec Thomas, The President, National Association of South East Students, Comrade Prince Garry, Imo Youth Ambassador, Amb. GTC Samuel and host of others who observed the proceedings.
